The Custom of Wearing Jewelry Is Not Just For Women

The custom of wearing jewelry is not just for women; men have adorned themselves with all sorts of precious gemstones and metals since time immemorial. Some texts say we learned it from the animal kingdom and started to adorn ourselves to attract the opposite sex. It might be simpler than that though; it might be that humans are just generally users of everything around them. Observing children at play, when they think no one is watching, is a clue to this adornment issue. Kids love to put on all sorts of interesting things and then admire themselves in the mirror. The only reason boys stop this behavior is because parents tell them such things are only for girls.

As girls, well…not every girl loves jewelry but most have a tendency to feel naked if they wander around without some sort of baubles on. Whether it’s a favorite pair of diamond stud earrings, a pearl necklace or a couple of favorite rings, girls don’t quite feel complete until adorned with their favorite things. This feeling goes beyond just the idea of wearing precious stones or metals, into the subtle energies of those substances. Those subtle energies provide a tweak to female energies that goes beyond how they look to themselves. Some days are just pearl days: days when they want to bring more of our beauty forth and make a statement of  their femininity. Not the women’s rights sort of feminine statement, but more the human woman oozing feminine graces.
It is amazing how little bits of precious substances can lift the mood; no wonder more men are wearing jewelry now. But don’t worry men—you stand in good stead with many ancient races where men wore huge collars of gold and precious gemstones. While back in ancient times the men who were so adorned were usually the wealthy leaders—not the peasants or workers—even the poor men wore some kind of talisman around the or wrists. Face it, we are a species that just loves to be gussied up with some kind of adornment.

The main reason we wear something is usually that it is special to us somehow. The object in question is usually something spiritual or relationship related; something to protect and guide, heal, or remind us of love. Even if the substance itself is something as simple as a rock with a hole in it, if it is given to us by someone we care about or for a specific helpful purpose, it has an effect on us. That effect actually changes our auric field, sometimes in amazing ways. It is another means of connection—with Self, others, and realms beyond our reckoning. We don’t have to know all that an adornment is doing for us, we feel it…it just feels good. That feeling is our clue that something is happening within our field—and it’s a good something.
And besides, we look darned good with that new piece of whatever, don’t we?
